Did You Think It’s Hungarian?

The inventions of Hungarian scientists, such as the dynamo, the carburetor, the ballpoint pen can be seen in the exhibition titled „Did you know it’s Hungarian?” at the Hungarian Technical and Transport Museum.

„With help of this show we would like to draw attention to the fact that several objects of great significance were made in Hungary that proved to be milestones in the history of science.”– stated manager of the study collection Gábor Képes. From the 19th century the optical lens by József Petzvál or the first dynamo by Ányos Jedlik can be seen. From the middle of the 20th century several characteristic objects characteristic of the era are displayed, such as the mirror reflex camera developed by Jenő Dulovits.

Gábor Képes emphasized that Marcell Jánosi’s microfloppy in 1974 was an invention of worldwide effect. The production of the floppy disc started only in 1982 in Hungary so the patent of his invention had expired int he meantime – thus it was the copy of the original floppy that spread around the world.

The visitors can walk through 3 store rooms but according to the plans, in the near future the complete collection will be presented. The 13 objects now on display can be examined until October 30^th.
