The first Exhibition of the Year Prize won by the Skansen

The North-Hungarian Village Region exhibition of the Hungarian Open Air Museum was regarded the most significant one in Hungary this year.

The goal of Pulszky Society – Hungarian Museum Association by establishing the prize „Exhibition of the Year”, was to recognize and appreciate the most authentic show of high standard which represent the latest scientific results. The exhibition to be awarded needs to connect different fields of science and art and finally, but just as importantly has to lure new groups of visitors into the museum.

The Prize consists of a plaque, a diploma and 1 million forints. The financial background of the award has been provided and guaranteed for another 3 years by the Paks Nuclear Power Plant Company. The announcement of the competition generated quite a big interest: 17 museums applied for the title. (Click here to read more about the competition)

The members of the judging committee examined the exhibitions on several occasions. For the final round only four museums remained with their shows: the Jókai exhibition in Balatonfüred, the permanent exhibition of the Óbuda Museum, the exhibition „The Land of Opportunities - Rise of the Middle Classes in 19th Century Hungary” and the North Hungarian Village Region of the Open Air Museum in Szentendre.

All four exhibitions were esteemed especially well arranged and created. Finally, the prize and the title „Exhibition of the Year 2010”was awarded the Open Air Museum.
